The aim of the union is to function as a national central organization for engineers, construction architects, individuals with a comparable education or qualification, and those working in the building trade.
One can become a union member by joining some RIA’s member association.
Admittance into a member association requires one of the following:
- ongoing studies or a degree in engineering, environmental planning or construction architecture in a Finnish polytechnic or technical school,
- a higher degree than those mentioned above,
- a foreign degree comparable to those mentioned above, or
- a post-secondary or higher diploma and ongoing high responsibility work duties in the building trade.
